Description

Beautiful and stunning hand-made, original
Russian Kholui hand-painted papier-mache lacquer box. This large box is subdivided into five separate inner chambers, each with its own painted lid. The large main lid is signed in gold on the lower left part of the lid with the title of the work “Son Tatyaniy” (Tatyana's Dream from Alexander Pushkin's “Eugene Onegin”); the village “Kholui” in the center and the artist’s signature “V. Kostin” on the right. The five inner chambers, all painted and signed by Kostin, are as follows:
Song of Prince Rostislav (poem by Alexey Tolstoy)
Boyarin Orsha (poem by Mikhail Lermontov)
Ruslan & Finn the Wizard (from Pushkin's Ruslan and Ludmila)
Prince Igor (Opera by Alexander Borodkin)
Morozko (“Father Frost”, poem by Pushkin)
T
his beautiful piece of art is in excellent condition with no visible blemishes. It is truly museum quality. When opened, it has the distinctive smell of linseed oil, an indicator of authentic Russian lacquer boxes. It is approximately 14 inches long, 11 inches wide and 4 3/4 inches tall. Comes from a smoke-free environment.
Please note: I only list the box as "Used" because I am hesitant to list an item that is over 25 years old as "New". The box has never been used for anything other than display. It is in pristine condition.
I have an unblemished Ebay reputation - you can bid with confidence.
