Large Handmade Red & Black Sailor's Manila Rope Utility Whisk/Brush.
A variation of a traditional theme, this handmade brush, made from one piece, has natural manila rope fiber bristles and synthetic cordage, which is covered in amber shellac.
The overall measurement is 10-1/2" long x 3-1/8" wide. The bristle length is 5-3/4".
Historically
, since rope was the most plentiful material available aboard ship, rope brushes were used for a variety of functions, such as cleaning table crumbs, washing dishes, painting, tarring, etc. Much larger ones were used to swab the deck.
Today, you will find they are just as versatile, especially when removing dust from your computer keyboard, or simply as an interesting addition to your nautical decor.
